Selective Hearing

I love watching my kids and grandkids interact. The little ones are trying to learn how to be people while the sometimes frustrated parents shape them in the right direction. Myla has developed selective hearing. Recently I observed her busy with a puzzle. Brad was four feet away telling her to do something. Several times he repeated the order and each time there was not even an acknowledgement that he was even in the room. At last he said in a calm unraised voice, “Myla, do you need a spanking.” Miraculously Myla heard him and complied with the instruction she had obviously heard all along.

As we navigate this humbling time, listen for God’s voice. It isn’t the things of the world that give us life. We live by His Word.

“Yes, he humbled you by letting you go hungry and then feeding you with manna, a food previously unknown to you and your ancestors. He did it to teach you that people do not live by bread alone; rather, we live by every word that comes from the mouth of the Lord.”‭‭Deuteronomy‬ ‭8:3‬ ‭NLT
