I love big fluffy towels. Old scratchy towels aren’t pleasant to dry off with for sure. I can find a set of big fluffy, soft towels and buy them, bring them home and put them into use. Over time they start losing their fluffiness. Why? Where does the fluffiness go?
I was changing out a load of clothes and pulled out that filter you are supposed to clean between loads. As I was scrapping the lint from the screen it dawned on me. There’s my towel’s fluffiness! As the towel tumbles in the heat, and rubs against all the other towels, its fluffiness is being sucked out and collected in the filter of lost fluffiness!
Yes, God speaks to me through lint and other peculiar ways. I couldn’t help but think how our fluffiness (joy, peace, love, kindness, goodness) is sucked out daily by the heat and tumble of our daily lives. Pressure, stress, obligations, unpleasant people, all work together over time to wear you down into a scratchy reflection of what you once were, or hoped to be.
If you want to restore towel fluffiness, you can include ten or twenty softener sheets or a couple of downy balls which are engineered to boost the fluffy factor. God has given us His Word, the opportunity of personal fellowship with Him, and other encouraging believers to boost our spirits and put some of the fluffy back in.
Psalm 23 verse 3 starts, “He restores my soul” or the NIV says it this way, “He refreshes my soul.” If I were to make a fresh translation today, it might go something like, “He puts the fluffiness back into your soul.”
Don’t let the heat and tumble of this life turn you into a scratchy worn soul. Let the Holy Spirit put the fluffy back in.
